A civil engineer is a person who practices civil engineering, one of the many professions of engineering. Originally a civil engineer worked on public works projects and was contrasted with the military engineer, who worked on armaments and defenses. Work may also be on energy development and conservation or soil and ground water contamination. A civil engineering degree from a civil engineering school, university or college is considered to be the minimum requirement for most entry-level positions Many employers require a computer science qualification as there is a dependence on computer technology in today’s profession. A master’s degree in civil engineering is fast becoming important for advancement in the profession.
